Research and measurement
Data, research and models help organise complexity, compare alternatives and make assumptions open to examination.
ANNEAU–GESTIONS · Investment approach
Research gives decisions a foundation. Discernment gives evidence context.
Explore →Purpose before portfolio
Markets provide information, but not instructions. Relevant economic, market and investment evidence needs to be considered in the context of the institution’s objectives, time horizon, liquidity needs and capacity for risk.
Discernment is not a substitute for analysis. It is the work of interpreting incomplete or conflicting evidence, testing assumptions and recognising where a model’s precision exceeds what the facts can support.
Every conclusion remains provisional. Evidence and circumstances can change, and decisions are made in the presence of uncertainty.
Two complementary disciplines
01
Data, research and models help organise complexity, compare alternatives and make assumptions open to examination.
02
Interpretation, challenge and responsibility help assess circumstances that a model cannot fully contain.
Philosophy in practice
01
Develop ideas from relevant economic, security and portfolio evidence. Make the assumptions explicit.
02
Consider alternative explanations and contrary evidence. Calibrate conviction to the quality of the analysis.
03
Connect decisions to authority, agreed limits, documented reasoning and a review process.
